Our history began with the vision of creating a specialized law firm dedicated to intellectual property and commercial law. From the outset, the firm aimed to address the growing demand for intellectual property protection in Turkey, particularly during a period of increasing globalization, technological advancement, and international trade expansion.

The firm was established to provide strategic legal services that protect innovation, creativity, and commercial value. Rather than offering general legal services, our practice focused specifically on intellectual property law, enabling us to develop deep expertise and deliver highly specialized legal solutions.

Our Founder: Selcuk Akkas

Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Our history is closely connected to the professional achievements of Selcuk Akkas, founder of Akkas & Associates Law Firm. With more than three decades of experience, Mr. Akkas has developed extensive expertise in intellectual property, business, and commercial law.

His practice focuses on trademark law, patent protection, intellectual property enforcement, commercial transactions, and dispute resolution. Over the course of his career, he has represented hundreds of domestic and international clients, providing strategic legal guidance in complex intellectual property matters.

Mr. Akkas’s professional leadership has shaped the firm’s service philosophy, emphasizing precision, efficiency, and comprehensive legal protection.

Early Career at Eczacıbaşı İlaç Pazarlama

A significant chapter in our history began in 1994, when Mr. Akkas started his professional career at Eczacıbaşı İlaç Pazarlama, one of Turkey’s largest pharmaceutical companies. During this period, he gained substantial experience in business law and intellectual property rights within a highly regulated and innovation-driven industry.

Working in the pharmaceutical sector provided him with valuable insights into patent protection, regulatory compliance, brand protection, and commercial legal frameworks. This experience played a crucial role in shaping his professional perspective and laid the foundation for the establishment of his own intellectual property practice.

Becoming One of Turkey’s First Trademark Attorneys

In 1996, Mr. Akkas passed the examination administered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, obtaining registration number 30. This achievement made him one of Turkey’s pioneering trademark attorneys.

This milestone represents an important moment in our history, as it established the firm’s strong foundation in trademark law and intellectual property protection. His early registration reflects both technical expertise and commitment to professional excellence in a developing intellectual property system.

Recognition for Professional Achievement

Mr. Akkas’s contributions to intellectual property law have received professional recognition. On October 22, 2016, he was honored by the PEM Patent & Trademark Attorneys Association in recognition of his 20 years of professional service.

This recognition highlights his long-standing dedication to the intellectual property profession and reflects the reputation our firm has built within the legal community.

Qualification as Patent Attorney

Continuing his professional development, Mr. Akkas passed the patent attorney examination in 2013 and was registered with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office under registration number 1324.

He continues to practice as both a trademark and patent attorney under the authority of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. This dual qualification significantly strengthened our firm’s technical capabilities and expanded the scope of services offered to clients.
